Follow the Star: The Significance of the Three Wise Men
“Though many kings of the Jews had been born and died, none of them did the Magi seek to adore. And so they who came from a distant foreign land to a kingdom that was entirely strange to them…But they had learnt that such a King was born that by adoring Him they might be sure of obtaining from Him the salvation which is of God.”
The Significance
Have you ever considered the story of the Three Wise Men? This is a story many of us have known since childhood, one derived directly from the Gospel.
As the story goes, the three wise men, or Magi, saw a bright star signaling the birth of a new King. They traveled from the East to Judea, where the star led them to Bethlehem. There they found the child Jesus, worshiped Him, and offered gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
Have you ever considered that this star was there for all to see? That the three wise men were not traveling in secret – they told others what they were doing, yet no one else joined in. No one else shared their enthusiasm or wanted to be part of the journey.
Can you relate?
Follow the Star
This year, God placed a challenging call on my heart and put me on a journey. It did not follow popular opinion, and I was consistently met with resistance. Yet, when I asked a respected mentor why this call was so clear to me and not others, this is what she said:
“It is God’s grace for you. Think about the star and the three wise men. The star was there for everyone to see, yet there was no following. Only the three wise men followed it and found Jesus.”
What does the star look like in your life? What is exceedingly clear to you—the direction God is leading you—yet others don’t see it or understand it?
We all have a unique path when it comes to finding Jesus. This is God’s grace for us.
This Advent season, I pray you will follow the star God has placed before you, embrace the journey, and find Him.
Godspeed,
Kari
“When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy. And going into the house, they saw the child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him. Then, opening their treasures, they offered him gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh. ”
